I saw this strange "stick" on the leaf of a sunflower- then, I realized, it was alive!! Nature is full of surprises!

I'm guessing some kind of "stick bug". I have seen the walking stick type before- but this is more like a caterpillar...

From what I found it is a stick caterpillar and there is very little known about them, and generally there are only a few that were named. I found a Brindle Beauty Caterpillar which is related to many of the stick caterpillars, but this one doesn't look just like it. But it will give you a good idea of what it is.
