You should see me gettin' some exercise around the house when it's too dark (wet, slippery, windy, etc.) to get out in public ... where I'm beyond dignified. Perhaps, staid is the proper word.

Not stayin' around in the easy chair like some bump on a log! As the exercise people tell us, "just move!" I even found a video ... from 1989! A resurgence of interest, we are told ... might be best in the privacy of our own homes but, hey, how much difference from those yoga practitioners in the park today?
:D
Fortunately, DW is tolerant.

Well Steve, There is a 20 something in great shape gal that makes those moves rain or shine evey day in our neighborhood. She's more advanced however as she carries @ 2 lb. dumbell in each hand.

The only addition I make is ..

. a little more shoulder movement. Oh yeah. Try it! How much exercise do ya think I'd get at my usual toddle?

I was the guy with a goofy walk, especially as a kid. You remember the guy who could appear to be disappearing down a flight of stairs but he was just walking behind the sofa? Yeah, I could dance like the Russians Tevye visited in Fiddler on the Roof.

Of course, this was all some time ago ...

Did you notice that when the video starts, she looks off to her left? I suppose she must be a little concerned about appearing ... abnormal.

;) Look, I've got this pdf booklet from Cornell (LINK). The link to the pdf is down there in the "workout period" section. How many times do you see people doing those things before or during a "run?" Aaalll the time! They stop for a Don't Walk signal and that's all they are doing bend, stretch, against the light pole ...

It just comes down to what is socially acceptable. (I have this path laid out in my house where I can leave the drapes closed and move a fair distance with only Ken from over the fence having any possibility of seeing me. He's a nurse ... besides, he'd have to either stand on his tiptoes in his bedroom or, somehow, see out his bathroom window - to see me traipsing about on my rounds!)

Something good about this walking (or prancercising ) is that it takes very little time to get that heartrate up. Aaannd, it's movement ... Sit & Be Fit? I don't hardly think so ....

I kept track of pulse with my exercise watch. (Forgot to do the starting/resting rate but I'm fairly normal on that. Show up at the doctor's office and it's always around 70/minute.) Anyway ...

3 minutes at a slow pace, er, prance: 89
5 minutes picking it up a little: 103
7 minutes: 105
9 minutes: 102

Okay, I might have been at a "pace" by 9 minutes ... On an hour walk, I'm feeling that I'm doing fine if I hit 110 at the mid-way point. Maybe I can get the smartphone and headphones providing some musical entertainment. The heartrate requirements are age-related ... fortunately ;).
