Starting again with trying to root cuttings.

Got the white/purple rooting hormone powder bottle. And some vermiculite.

Trying to get florist roses to root currently.
Cut under leaf node, I think. No leaves on them.
Contained to keep in moisture. On seedling mat to stay warm.

What else do I do? How long does it take before I know if it failed or worked?

I'm used to willows. They root in water in days, lol. But willow water has never worked for me to use on other plants to root them.

i would leave one small leaf on the end.

every type of plant can have different methods (yes, multiple methods may work).

rooting hormones seemt to have came along later after i'd done most of my research on propagating plants. so that improved the odds of getting some cuttings to take, but basically it was always a good idea to start with as many cuttings as i had room for and then discard those that didn't take.

if there was a mold issue i would not reuse the same pot for another try but instead just recycle it through a garden or use it on an established plant which i knew to already be hardy.

Did you see my thread on propagating florist roses? Me, @Phaedra, and @Carol Dee all tried it at the same time. None of ours survived but I'm planning on trying again.

Join the thread if you want! I'd love to see your results!

Covered are all cuttings. Roses, hedges and a weird plant that doesn't seem to die when cut!
Seeing some new leaves, flowers on the hedges.

And then seeds. Carnations, not doing great, weed seeds mixed in because of the outside dirt.
And Lupine seeds. 3 bins, but 1 fully failed.
And two different brands of wildflowers mixes. One brand, pink, was mostly one type of round seed, had very little of other seed types! I put the other seed types in a separate bin to see how they come up. Disappointing. Other brand has great variation!

This plant is used in cut flowers as a filler. Had it, cut in water, for about 6-7 months! The never dying plant! So, trying to root cuttings of it!

Some roses have new leaves growing in.
Tossed about 4 cups of failed cuttings, removed several more from cups with sprouting cuttings.

Moved the Lupine into pots and outside.

Moved two bins of the mixed flower sprouts to a big pot outside.

Ugh. Hot mess. Many started to sprout, but few, if any, put out roots!
A lot has been thrown away.
When do roots come in??20240508_121223.jpg20240508_121217.jpg20240508_121205.jpg

And the other seed started stuff. Idk which thread they'd go under and have too many going to start another.
