Our youngest daughter JB (short for June Bug) has no fear. She holds snakes without question and will try nearly anything. But her boyfriend? Well...They were at the local apple festival today and had the opportunity to hold some exotic birds. Somebody is loving the experience, and somebody is not. I'll let you decide...

If birds make him nervous, he has a long row to hoe with my daughter ;)

I don't blame him, a bite from a macaw could send you to ER. They have very powerful breaks, not like getting bit by a chicken .

Many years ago a very dear friend of mine was an exotic bird fanatic. I've handled many Macaws, as well as Mexican Double Yellow Heads and Cockatoo's, not mention the smaller birds like Quakers. Hand tame birds rarely bite, unless provoked or frightened of course. It just struck me funny how a girl would show no fear, but he couldn't wait to be rid of them. BTW, he's also skittish around chickens.
Julia knows any animal can bite, even the snakes I hand her out of the garden, but she takes it for what it is. She doesn't let that rule her decision to experience something.

For example...

Yesterday we got a call from the Color Guard coach. JB was hit in the head with a flag pole and we should come get her to see if she should go to the doctor. She had a hell of a goose egg, but wanted to stay and keep practicing. The coach had to force her to stop. She was required to go to the doctor today and get a release so she could go back to practice today. She knows it could happen again, but that's just a part of life. She doesn't fear getting hit in the head again because it's just a part of what she wants to do.

Had one of the birds bit her and required stitches, she wouldn't let it keep her from doing it again. She would chalk it up to one of life's experiences and keep going. She doesn't let fear get in the way of experiencing life.
