I agree with Smiles, Journey and Cat.
Once the snow is here I enjoy it, and we do a lot of snowshoeing. Switching gears and giving the old body a break from strenuous work so things can heal is so welcome!

I collect books through the year to read in the winter. This winter I'm learning more about botany, I have about 3 books and a botany coloring (!) book to work through. :)

I love to take up a new hobby or learn a new skill in the winter. Yesterday I dove into learning to crochet. I think I had tried it once in the distant past, as double crochet feels so natural. I hope to make several of those "infinity" scarves. I know a lot of people with cold necks. :D Of course, if I get proficient, this hobby will, as all my hobbies do, turn into making things for my granddaughters.

Mine is a used one I got from Amazon, but it hasn't been colored in. It's by Paul young, kind of along the lines of the Grays Anatomy
( not the tv show! ) coloring book. I wasn't actually looking for a coloring book, it popped up in a search on Amazon. I thought it would be useful since I'm such a hands on type learner.

I'll have to check Dovers stuff. :)

For us the best part of winter is "rest".

No baby animals.
Pigs, turkeys and meat birds are feeding us instead of us feeding them.
Gardens put to sleep.
Not as much can be done outside after work because of darkness.
Fewer social commitments, due to winter weather.
On rare occassion we can actually get 8 hours of sleep. :D (I almost made it last night...7hrs 45 mins!)

I have to say dreaming about next spring with all the new additions we all want to get done. Planning the next garden and get a good long rest in the Winter so we're all ready with lots of energy once Spring arrives! ;)

Theirs nothing like thinking what you what to plant next year in the garden.

I had to think about the question quite awhile. Now, I am springing into action!

Generally, I don't like the cold. Wearing thick layers of clothing -- what's the fun in that? I don't like to have to think about what driving out of the driveway is going to amount to and weighing the risks. And the long hours of darkness . . .
:barnie

In recent years, I get very little exercise during much of winter. Right now, it has rained off and on for days. Not only is there little light but everything looks glum glum glum. What will brighten this dismal landscape? . . . a lovely layer of pristine white snow!

I've gotta take it easy but I will be out before daylight, shoveling my way from the backsteps all the way down the driveway, across the front of the house and up to the front door. Phew!

Later, after a break, I'll shovel a path to the chicken house and down to the garage and greenhouse. Later still, I will clean out the driveway. Sometimes, I clean off the pickup just because it's kind of embarrassing that I may go absolutely nowhere for days at a time. I may as well at least give the impression that I'm about ready to bolt from the yard and head off on a highly important mission! Yep, I may need to get down to the soopermarket for more broccoli.

Yep, that's what I enjoy. A lovely white landscape with me out there sculpting it and No Where To Go!

What winter? Okay, I better not brag. Still getting a few strawberries, zuchini, cilantro, lettuce, collard greens, swiss chard, kale, and beets. I think I'm bragging. :hide
