... to ripen will be a Sun Sugar cherry!

IMG_20170713_163917.jpg

The plant is in 5 gallons of good compost in my backyard. That's a much more protected environment than the open garden, altho the 25mph wind gusts this afternoon might make one wonder!

There's no question that I will have a golden ripe tomato this month ... if DW or the squirrel don't get it first!

Nice tomato, it gives me hope for our
Sungolds to produce some ripe fruit one day. Hey you have to guard the first ripe tomato from those who might try to beat you to it lol. Maybe a strategic placed leaf perhaps lol.

You better put a wire case around it to keep the critters out. Birds got to my first one. But I am getting plenty now.

I think that it is just about time for me to begin shooting the squirrel with the hose whenever he shows up.

@Collector , I think that if it was a Sungold - I'd be even more confident of having it ripen soon.

If I was trying for an "earliest," it sure wouldn't be from a plant in the garden. They aren't looking all that good out there. I think the heat and never a drop of shade has been stressful for them. There haven't been any sprinkler failures, at least. The tomato patch is right at the end of the sprinkler line and it happened very early before the heat wave but that was the only episode of a plugged sprinkler.

I also wouldn't be competing with a gardener from southern Missouri for an "earliest."

Tomatoes are not Just the Stuff of Dreams. (2 Yellow Jelly Beans. Turns out that they were more ripe than the Sun Sugar! They are the only 2 tomato plants in my backyard ... and I couldn't recognize the measure of ripeness! Maybe I should go back and correct the thread title.)

Those are looking mighty tasty Steve. My sungolds have a lot of fruits on them, but none are starting to turn yet. Remaining patient. We did harvest our first zucchini though.:celebrate
