Today DH decided to take a super off the hive that overwintered as it is farthest ahead. Here is the 1st 2 1/2 gallon of honey for the summer of 2017. Yum. :)

Wow, isn't it kinda early for this kind of production?

I thought it was also! But DH says it will be fine. He only took 1 of 2 supers from the hive that overwintered and had a head start on the others. We will see

Nice looking honey do you filter it?
Yes, it is run through two very fine screens. Which catch the debris and any hitch hikers. (Note the ants that had been drawn to it after
DH brought it home to collect. (He left the frames sit out for several hours on the patio!)

That looks great Carol. How many gallons do you think you will get over the entire season? Will it be raw honey?

DH might tell you better. I have no clue! We got 7 gallons last fall. Did not count the spring. That was with 3 hives. I think he has 7 or 8 hives now. So .... 7X8 = 56 for 1 season. But that may vary with weather, die off etc... so I really have no idea! A LOT that is for sure.
And yes all raw honey (if that is the proper term) as we only run it through screens to catch debris and do not heat treat/pasteurize it.
