Your garden is coming along great! I had missed this post before, about the loss of your step-daughter and your friend. What a wonderful living tribute to them. There is something so peaceful and so healing about putting your hands to the dirt and the promise wrapped up in a little seed. :hugs

Another garden season has started for Ivy Hill!! Today I started tomatoes, eggplant, and celery!!

I started them in peat pots... and of course I cannot find my peat trays... LOL We've got to run to Lowes today anyways... so I'm just going to pick a few up.

We also don't have grow lights... do you think if I get a small table to put in front of the windows. Do you think that will work?

I have been quite successful growing plants in front of windows. You want them to have as much light as possible since some of the light is filtered out by the glass. Also, it should be a cool location - cool for indoors, anyway.

Indoor heat and the heat from sunlight can run the thermometer up. All that limited light with extra heat will just encourage stretching.

About the best location I had for indoor growing was a long window in my utility room. In that house, I could keep the utility room quite a bit cooler than the rest of the house - pay attention when it was getting too sunny and warm in there on some days, and open the door into the kitchen. It worked great.

A lot of people start things under a window set over a box in the backyard. They call those things "coldframes" ;).

Seed starting is on my fridge because it stays warm up there even thru the night but once those seedlings start to emerge - they go first, onto a table in front of a nice big south window. In time, they migrate out to my greenhouse.

Well... the windows are a bit drafty... does that help? LOL

We don't have a spot in the house that we can shut off and make cooler. We're working on getting an old window and some straw bales for a cold frame
