The versatile summer delight.

Or, so claims the title of a new book at the library. I got it!

It isn't really all that new. Copyright is 2004 but it just showed up (within my reach :)). Desserts, desserts, desserts!! Okay, I like the rhubarb crisp and coffee cakes and pies. They wouldn't be why I'd bring this home.

Have you ever made the main course with rhubarb? Grilled chicken with rhubarb relish ... short ribs in rhubarb bbq sauce. Lots of granulated sugar gets used in this book but this one is made with honey.

Remember my little exploration of rhubarb bbq sauce (link)? There aren't too many main course recipes in here but I may be able to make use of 1 or 2!

Steve :)

Oh I would have definitely got it for the desserts! But the main course offerings sound interesting. You go ahead and test them and let us know if they're safe.

Well, there are 31 pie recipes amongst the "more than 200 recipes that put new zing into the familiar pie plant!"

With other things, the author includes an adequate share with boxed cake mixes. I'd like to recommend the muffins, I'm sure they are good. Still, a half cup of rhubarb at a time does not get me very far ...

Here's an idea.

I wimped out on starting from scratch by making the ketchup in the ketchup-based bbq sauce that I made last winter. I just used Heinz.

How about if I start with 4 cups of rhubarb to make 2 cups of "rhubarb ketchup?" Half of that ketchup could then go into the "Canadian Living" bbq sauce recipe. Right now, I even have Heinz heirloom tomatoes for the ketchup!

But one little thing can revive a guy,
And that is home-made rhubarb pie.
Serve it up, nice and hot.
Maybe things aren't as futile as you thought.
Mama's little baby loves rhubarb, rhubarb,
Beebopareebop Rhubarb Pie.

We're having a crowd here for Thanksgiving.
I have bags of rhubarb in the freezer...

Anything in the way of rhubarb stuffing, or maybe a cranberry/rhubarb relish in that book of yours Steve?

Certainly there is relish. Cinnamon, allspice and cloves ... Brown sugar, vinegar and chopped onions. Sound about right?

There is a recipe for turkey breast with rhubarb sauce. But, I don't see a stuffing nor anything with cranberries.

:) Taste of Home has a cornbread and rhubarb stuffing (link). Food.com (link) has an apple, rhubarb & cranberry crisp :).

Irish cooking seems to be in vogue. At least, there is a proliferation of Irish chefs on teevee. I saw one making a "fool" a couple of days ago.

Making a fool out of myself has always come naturally. Anyway, there's Hash, Betty and a rhubarb ginger Fool. I kinda like Ginger, Mary Ann, too!

Now, Star Trek ... I'm going to try to find rhubarb and Mayberry.
