Hi Bay !

I pay 10 cents a square foot plus $ 50.00 for the season for unlimited watering if I want to water the garden. That works out to about $ 388.00 for the season I believe . Since I can't afford the taxes on an acerage spread in the country a few hundred bucks to grow all these beautiful gemm like beans is worth it to me. All paid with green paper. That's all it is just paper and for the enjoyment I get out it not very much. Someday I'll have all the photos and memories of all those wonderful gardens, and all the internet friendship with all you great gardening folks. I think a good trade for a little paper.

Green paper is naught but a tool to be used to procure that which means more than mere money can buy. I'd say you came out on the good end of this deal! :thumbsup

Just curious, Bluejay: Is your ground there so black because it is old flood plain, or due to glacial movement? There is rich black dirt south of me from old flood plain, but here in the Ozark foothills, our dirt is clay, reddish brown and attractive only to moles and pigweed.

Honeycomb, don't give up on your beaten bean plants. Sometimes they can grow from the side shoots and still give a crop.

Which varieties did you get from Russ Honeycomb? I can help to kick in with Black Coco which is one I think you mentioned you got. My Black Coco are doing well so far, and mine have some good variation in the plants. They are now making pretty light lavender blossoms, and barring problems, will produce until frost steadily. My first killing frosts can be as late as December 1st. Meantime, don't give up on your Bean plants yet. Perhaps you can help them along with a couple waterings from a can that has a very mild solution of Fish emulsion added. Beans do not normally need feeding, but your hail beaten bean plants might appreciate a very mild, perhaps half the recommended dilution, watering with fish emulsion.

Russ may have a better suggestion.

Honeycomb, if you don't grow enough of the Black Coco you got from Russ to send back, just let me know. Dang, hopefully mine do alright! So far so good. Some of them are flowering and about to make little bean pods.

Did you have any other varieties from Russ that got hit?
