Interesting.

So you microwaved the chicken poop?

And, please tell me why add pearlite? I've never understood that.

Was it fresh chicken poop? And you microwaved it instead of sticking it in your compost? Is that right?

After I clean the coop I add that to a compost pile.
I microwaved it to kill any bad bacteria and weed seed.

Pearlite is to keep the soil loose and helps aerate it also.
Potting soil tends to get compacted not allowing for good drainage, Pearlite also helps with that.

free good soil I think it was worth it ..but then I just watched!

I love pearlyte and I used it in my raised beds to help lighten the soil and improve drainage ( now I think I should have used more)
I think it does wonders for soil ..it is really the only thing I actually buy to add to soil anymore

I have baked composted soil but only to take it in the house ..but right now all the soil I have is my own and roated with my own compost..I have bugs but not overwhelmed by them I think things have evened out actually

..if I brought anything in I would be heating it as well especially treemulch I worry about termites (we got those one time from bringing in some tree mulch

the extra microwave is probably worth it compared to how my house smells when I heat soil for the house :p

When ya'll are making your own soil, what do you do with the earthworms that have moved up into your compost? My compost area is a square area about 4x4 where I take the goat's hay droppings, stuff that I muck out of the chicken coop plus where I dump the barrel that gets all our kitchen scraps (that don't go to the birds). There is a small opening on one side so the chickens can get in there and scratch it around for me. Anyway, when I do shovel some of that out there are always like 10 billion worms. Most I pick out but I firgure the rest are ok. Should I not be leaving these little squirmies in my soil for indoor pots?

Interesting. I'm viewing this like a tutorial.

So, as to the heating to get out buggies, etc., could i do the same thing (so as to keep my house from smelling like baked chicken poop) say on an outdoor fire pit? - you know in a big pot over the camp fire?

Also, i like the redneckmaid logo on your mulch master. :)

I did not have any worms in the compost I used because I dump the pile out and spread it just a little then turn the chicken loose on it.
I spread the pile a little first to give the worms a half a chance to dig in before the gang moves in on them.

I microwaved mine because I am using this batch for cuttings.
The extra micro is handy! It is out in my sunroom so I don't have stink up the house.
