we had two sunflower plants growing within inches of each other. deer ate the top off one and left the other alone. so we now have the one 5-6ft plant with the flowerhead and in it's shadow is this 1ft stalk that's sat there and done nothing since it got chomped. the stalk is giving it just enough energy to persist and that's it. too bad there aren't sabre toothed tigers around any more to do some chomping of deer...
