I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold.

After going only as far as from the redwoods to Hollywood could you travel exactly half way around the world and never leave the Pacific?

Antipodes

Set your indicator just off the border of Peru and Chile in the blue Pacific. See where you would be on the opposite side of the Earth ..!?

Quite a pond, eh?

Antipodes don't seem to be a very popular subject. It might be because of that Pacific ocean.

Straight through the center, starting most anywhere in North America or Europe and you end up in the Pacific.

The exception is with Canada. That takes you to the Indian Ocean. Dodge an island or two and you are right back to sailing on the Pacific.

I have to say the Pacific is my favorite of the two, for scenery, but at least the Atlantic is not quite as frigid. I am longing for a trip to an ocean, ANY ocean. But since the Atlantic is closer, it would do fine. I love to be at the ocean, but not in the ocean.

I see from north of Montana, you can tunnel through to McDonalds Island. I would need a Big Mac and a shake by the time I got there.
(Sorry for being silly on your serious interesting thread, Steve. Must be too much coffee this morning)

One of my memories is when I visited Destin, Florida in the winter back before I was married. I was by myself and enjoyed it that way. That's the Gulf of Mexico side, not the Atlantic, but close enough. All the tourists were gone, it was too cold to get in the water, most tourist businesses were closed. It was so peaceful sitting on the beach wrapped up against the cold with those waves breaking and no one around to disturb you. That is a good memory.

You of course know that by digging down about 1000' your next shovel full will yield you your melted shovel and melting shoes, then your pants will be on fire... :barnie then when you try to put the fire out with the Pacific Ocean water, it will turn to steam turning you red as a lobster :th

Ah, enjoying all this vicarious traveling from the comforts of south-est, central-est Wisconsin. What I should be doing is helping with the clean up from yesterday's adventures with a chain saw. Stop back later.
