The Shank is part of the Spur extending out with the Rowel (round, or wheel)
The Yoke is the parts that extend around your Heel, some call them Heel Brand.
Here it is:
never seen rowels as sharp as this. When the Rowel touches the horse three or four tip touch at the same time spreading the pressure. Softer touch that way.
If you're too heavy with the spur the horse will stop paying attention to the teacher/rider, just like being too heavy of the reins, the horse becomes use to the heavy .
