Nifty, when I reply to a thread the site automatically puts me on watch, while I like this for some threads I don't want it for all the threads. How do I take myself off of threads I don't want to watch?

Wishin, i think i can answer this. On an individual basis, when you're viewing the thread you dont want to Watch anymore, there will be a box on the top right that says "Unwatch Thread" that's it!

Nifty, as I said on another thread, I really like a lot of the features of the new platform. How should we report posts now though? On BYC, there is a report button but I'm not seeing that here. I've seen several posts lately that are clearly spammers and wasn't sure how to go about reporting them to a mod for removal?

You can also decide that when you reply on a thread, Wishin'.

Click "More Options." After you have done that you will see something below the text box. It will say "Watch this thread." Unclick that box.

Honestly, I still haven't quite figured out Alerts. I still need to look at "Recent" or "New" posts several times each day and it is really best for me to daily check the forums that I usually find the interesting stuff in. For me that's likely to be: Fruits & Veggies, Everything Else Gardening & Random Ramblings. I might miss some interesting stuff but that's just gonna happen as I begin to get busy this year and TEG grows & grows!

Steve

HEChicken, I am just gonna click " HEChicken, 1 minute ago Report" on ya! ;) Bottom of your post and that "Report" is a link.

To turn that off, go up to the very top right corner of the page (from any page, it's always there) and in the green you will see your username, then Inbox, then Alerts (side by side in a row). Click on your username, a drop-box will appear, then click on Preferences and un-check the first one which should say "Automatically watch threads that you create or when you reply..." This will make it your default option for all threads to NOT watch them, unless you tell it to.

Then if you do want to watch a particular thread, you can later click the button toward the top right of that thread that says "Watch Thread" (as Heather mentioned). I find that I only "watch" a few when I'm really interested...the rest I just click through as I feel like it. Hope that helps!

ETA: I think that any you had opted to watch (voluntarily or not ;) ) prior to un-checking that box in your preferences will remain "watched" until you individually select to "unwatch" them. The button that Heather and Steve mentioned is the same button for both...and will be one or the other depending on if you are watching or not! Pheww... That was a mouthful! LOL

Duh. Thanks Steve - I was looking for report near the reply button and didn't think to look left….

What NWMtGardener said will work, but it is the long way about doing it, ...... looks like Journey s'plained how to stop the default for alerts while I was trying to find (unsuccessfully) out how I did it some time ago. The only posts that I get alerts for are those I specifically ask to watch.

Wow..... duh. I went all through my personal setting before asking and only found the default setting that would either make me watch all threads I replied to or none, meanwhile the unwatch was staring me right in my face.:rolleyes:
Thanks for the help everyone.:)
