Thinking of repiping your home ?

If anyone or anyone that you know are thinking of repiping your home, and see a TV advertise for this service from " repipe specialists " ... " we repipe your home in one day with copper or pex pipes at half the cost of a plumber ". RUN as fast as you can if you value your sanity, your money, and a HUGE headache that follows after they get done with you. Yea, we know, as we became a victim of this national marketing company. ☠

Boy, oh boy THAT will depend up on where you live. My plumber just moved to SD, where his mom has been living. He recommended a plumber nearly one hour away to replace him.
Hardly more affordable.

Plumbers in SW Washington are now charging on average ... $ 170.00 / hour. First, our water heater died a watery death, so we called American Home Shield ( a home insurance company for working parts of the house. A nightmare in dealing with this company ... they only said that they will replace the water heater ONLY , but not the plastic shut off valves on top of the water heater, that would not shut off. The plumbers that they sent out did NOT shut off the water main at the street, so we couldn't even flush the toilet. after 3 days, I shut off the city main to our house, then installed 2 caps onto the hot and cold water lines. Mirracle ... we could flush the toilets and have COLD water to the sinks. Enter the repipe people as 3 of our neighbors' pipes had failed within the last year. This " Repipe Specialists" charged us TWICE the cost of a plumber, then farmed out the work to a local plumbing company who done absolutely minimum work to pass inspection and made 10x the more work to repair and replace sheetrock, drilled through the floor and through heat chamber under cabinets causing huge air leaks as well as increased heating bills, drilled through the floor near the toilet to install the pex plumbing to service the toilet ( instead of inside of the wall like it was originally. When we discussed the work with the salesman, we requested 3/4" pipe as well as 6 shower heads in the master shower as a " hydronic therapy shower " like we had in Cal. , as well as 3/4" pepipe to the 4 faucets on the outside of the house. what we got was a contract that was falsely doctored, NO 3/4' pex plumbing to this shower and neither to the 4 faucets to water my gardens. Last night, we had a rain storm with some wind... guess what woke me up this 4AM ? Why the air rushing through the floor and into the air duct chamber under the MB sink cabinet in a loud whistle .......

I know for a fact he drinks beer on the job.

And why does he always seem to be reading the instructions AFTER he puts all the pipes and valves in instead of beforehand?

I got in one shower and the cold was hot and vice versa, and I read where that tub spout should be solid pipe to prevent shower rise. I am shocked that I have not found a leak yet. I wonder when he is gonna patch those holes too. It just seems like it takes him forever to get a simple job done.

CPVC is the choice. At some point, pvc will have an issue. In my experience this is related to the physical work caused by temp changes. Pvc is at some point (around here- tropical heat then snow) gonna let you down.

I installed double insulated PVC pipe for automatic waterers in my horse barn in high desert area of central Cal.... one night ALL of the PVC lines split the long way up to 12 feet long. The only reason that there was no flood was because water in the lines formed to ICE at 14* F . Even a couple of the copper lines burst going to the barn and inside our home too !
