I bought some new lily varieties from American Meadows this spring/summer. I post the Salmon Star before. Here is the Tiger Lily *Black Beauty* finally in bloom. Stunning.

They are SO PRETTY!

:hit That's the one a friend sent to me last year. It was 3' tall when I went out of town and I didn't get everything sprayed. Rotten deer ate it! :somad Next year it will be fenced AND sprayed!

It does seem late for a Tiger Lily, @thistlebloom . Here they usually bloom mid-summer. Though this year I have a late Oriental, still blooming today. Other than a real wet Spring, we've had pretty normal weather, so I don't know what the deal is. ( now that I think about it, this one may have been struggling to get out of the weeds.)

The lateness may be that I planted them early JUNE! Probably lucky to get blooms at all.

Well that explains it. I wouldn't have expected blooms this year either.

@Nyboy , do the deer bother plantings right up by the house? or do you have gardens there?

Most of the deer here are still quite timid, not really residential, but they almost never graze close to house. Only a couple of deep snow winters when food got scarce, they got a shrub. I leave the front and side porch lights on all night and it seems to help with the gardens that are close. Although I have gotten a bit more particular about searching out deer resistant plants lately also.
