Steve, I've been hooked on several tiny house shows. They are so efficient. I don't think I could live in the real tiny ones of around 200sq. ft. But maybe those that are around 500 ft. Are those considered tiny?

if i lived by myself maybe. i've thought sometimes about getting one of those tear drop trailers and just running away by myself to see the country. but i really can't afford to buy one when i have to pay for a house at the same time. and i really like gardening and having my chickens, so staying put for the time.

I think they're really cute and creative...but seems to me its such an extreme! I agree the McMansions are ridiculous, and most people (even families) don't need more than, say 2,500 or 3,000 sq ft... But whats wrong with a moderate 1,000 sq ft house for a couple?

I used to live in a 10,000 sq ft house, most of the rooms we never went in to never mind use. We lived in the kitchen and master bedroom.

I think half the population would consider my house tiny. Still, it would have hit the "average" in the 1950's, altho' it was already middle age.
I was just moving things off the bottom shelf of the cabinet above the fridge - gotta get more seeds starting up there! It's real obvious to me that DW couldn't live in a smaller home

Travel trailer, yeah ... altho' a teardrop would be tuff. Still, I don't see why "tiny houses," on wheels are much different. A number of people rent lots for vacations on lakes here, leaving their camp trailer right there year-round. I like that idea . There are a few hardy souls who live in them year-round ...

They really are cute, but I think I need a little more space.
It would be fun to have one in the back woods to hang out in, for those times when I'm feeling kind of thistley.
My house is 1200 sf and that makes about 400 sf per person.
The house my folks bought when I was a a baby and kid#4, was 800sf.
We lived there until I was 7. I remember it as huge, especially the kitchen.
