I think Journey is right on with the days for squash since I think it bears within a 6 to 8 weeks.
Also most tomatoes seem to be advertised in the 70-90 day range, some early girl's are advertised in the 50-60 day range, but I would add about two weeks to the number of days advertised for a variety since this is typically under ideal conditions. I figure in about 4 weeks for starting the seedlings. I set out tomato plants in mid April and on most years have tomatoes for the 4th of July cookouts. These are set out as ~8 - 10 inch plants in mid April that were started in my greenhouse at the first of March or late Feb. This is for "Better Boys", but also I plant an early version called "Siberian". That puts me in the 100 -120 day range from the day I start the seed, depending on the variety.
Also Whitewater is right on squash and zuchini, I had three squash plants and two zuchini and found that was twice as much as I needed for a family of four. It got so bad my wife threatened me with bodily harm if I brought any more in the house towards the end of summer. I did find out the chickens will eat squash, though they got tired of it as well.:/
Everyone, thank you SO MUCH for your replies! It's really nice seeing that TheEasyGarden is just as helpful as BackYardChickens! Since I planted the seeds yesterday, I'm going to pull out some of them today. Out of the 15, how many do you think I should keep? I have a family of three, along with a couple relatives I could give squash to.
My tomatoes always take WWAAAYYYY longer that to bear fruit than my patience can take! Even in 2009, when I had tomatoes Before July 4th! (Didn't know that I'd have to wait weeks to get more!! )
I planted my tomatoes around the end of April last year under a poly-tunnel on my raised bed and I had tomatoes pretty early, and my plants were enormous!
