WOW received a call from my 78 year old mother we are very close now
Yesterday she was sent notice her car insurance was going to
98.00 a week and was in crying mode.. of course we dropped
everything to head over there ( she is about an hour away and
shares property with my disabled brother and his girlfriend who is jealous
of the relationship mom has with my brother and a big whiner)
Like any good daughter I brought food and cookies
with my lack of sight being legally blind she knew I understood
and pretty quick saw the better side and was alright
again.and that he would drive her any time she asked.

I am also thinking I want to take2 or 3 of my 5
original Barred Rocks putting them in the garden to free range
rid it of pests but not decimate the garden?
I would have to give them a place in the greenhouse as it
would be problematic at night to run them into the main coop
as my pullets will be in the main coup by then.

My mother-in-law was in her 80's when her auto insurance dropped her. She found some very expensive insurance to cover her for 1/2 a year. We lived far from her so could not be of any help. I pointed out that the cost would go a long way in the cost of taking a taxi. She never looked at things that way. Her vision was terrible and she would never have passed the eye exam at motor vehicles. She had already had a few fender benders. Sure enough within a month she caused an accident hitting a Grandmother and grandchild. She was bruised and ended up in a nursing home. Fortunately the others were not hurt. She did have an unsetting visit with a police officer, where they took her drivers license. But certainly it could have been deadly. She never came out of the nursing home as they found she had untreatable lung cancer. Had she taken a taxi she would have had a few months longer at home. The elderly are so difficult to know when to quit driving. I am glad you were able to comfort your mother, PennyJo. And that she has help.

My Dad and MIL had macular degeneration. My Dad took the eye test 3 times and finally passed in Florida. It seems that is a state that should have know better. I did drive with him and was shocked at how well he appeared to see. When he was nearing the end he was sharp as a tack but was just losing weight and getting weak. I remember him telling me,"Just get me to the car and I will do fine driving." I appealed to the grandfather in him and he finally agreed to hang up his keys.
