My tomatoes suffered terribly this year from blight :( My 12 tomato plants were reduced to 3 plants, and even those barely made it. Next year I am doing the following to reduce the chances:

*Starting plants from seed, reducing the exposure to blight from other sources
*Completely different area for my tomatoes, they have been in the same spot for several years and since dh cut down a large tree, this has given me additional room and fresh soil :clap
*Mulch, mulch, mulch....I watched the blight start from soil splashing onto my plants

Good luck to all!!!

Early blight is a common problem for me. Last year however, we had VERY dry, unfavorable conditions for disease and I had the best tomato crop in 3 years! :celebrate Thank goodness I have never seen late blight!

I have always started my plants from seed. After the problem with nursery plants last year it's the best thing you can do to prevent late blight, if you can! Also, take extreme precautions if you also grow potatoes!

Some interesting info... Late blight

I know that smoking is not "in vogue" any more....but if you do use tobacco products, of ANY kind, it's a good idea to be sure you wash your hands before "fooling" with your tomato plants...at any stage of growth....as tomatoes are highly susceptible to diseases transmitted through tobacco.

I agree we had a pool party and I had a potted 100 cherry that was doing really good. Then about a week later plopped on me. Looked like a blight or tabacco mosaic. Then the ones by the pool pump where hubby smokes had same thing. I just went out today<florida> and found a new tomato on a plant! So excited! Lots of green beans today and Lettuce! So happy! This is my prime season for yummies!

We had blight up here last summer, but we also didn't have any sun to speak of- it rained more last summer than I have ever seen. Mud all year long. So, I don't know if blight got the tomatoes or the mud did. I may just do some in pots on the patio this year.
