Just reading this is making me hungry.
Start canning your tomatoes in 2012. EVERY time I open one of my jars to cook with tomatoes they taste JUST THE SAME as they did when I picked them. TOTALLY YUM!!! I still have 30 quarts of tomatoes downstairs. You never know, tomatoes may become scarce!!!ROFL!
Yeah my tomatoes did terrible last year. Not worth canning. This year ...:fl

. . . five days earlier last year (what am I thinking). My plan was to wait and start them a week later than last year. . .
My thought was to suggest that if you think you are a little early, and just to hedge your bets anyway, you should go ahead and plant more seed in about 10 days, Collector . . .

Good idea Steve, I still have plenty of seed. I am hoping the weather is nice enough to get the plants outdoors earlier this spring than last. I am going to wait a couple weeks and do a small seed starting to ensure we will have something to put in the garden. You know just in case the first 400 are a flop LOL.

So, from Google Earth, your place will be the giant tomato plantation? :)

Hmmm, guess I should do my seed inventory to decide what tomato it'll be...

My tomato seeds started sprouting a couple days ago. :weee The only ones not up are the yellow pear which were iffy as the seeds are almost 10 years old. No biggie if they don't sprout, I mainly like them picked green for pickling, they split way too easily on me and are so-so in flavor. I also just realized re-reading this thread that I did not plant the freebie container tomato from Park. Probably because I can't find them! I'm wondering if they fell out of the package into my car. I had opened the package at the PO to show the gal working there what I got. And now my car is in the shop so I won't be able to check for days yet! I'll keep my eyes out for a lone gold packet in the house till then.
