In the past week, we have gotten about 7 inches of rain with the rare 20min breaks of sunshine. Luckily, I live in sugar sand so I don't have any flooding. Bad for me, my plants are turning yellow and not growing like they usually do. I don't know what do to- we aren't projected to get a hot sunny day until next week. Any advice? Or is this just the dreaded gardener's bad luck?

Not too much you can do about too much rain.. good ole'mother nature! Keep an eye out for mildew on your squash, etc. Here's hoping for some sunshine headed your way!

I always think "peppers" when I see your posts, HPQ.

The peppers in my garden will all end up somewhat stunted again this year, I suppose. They absolutely just sit there and stare at the world for the first several, long weeks that they are out there. When the weather finally turns to more favorable conditions, the peppers seem to benefit from the addition of a side-dressing of organic fertilizer. They seem to be one of those that show the best response.

Then, they take off!

We're supposed to get about 5 inches of rain with this LOVELY tropical storm that's passing over right now. I'm kinda hoping that my plants make it thru! Most of them have just started setting flowers and fruit!! We had some wind and rain yesterday and after it stopped I went out and found 3 tiny squash in the grass. :(

I have lived and garden on the Pacific coast so it is possible for me to imagine 7 or 5 inches of rain in a short time . . . still!

Here, those 7 or 5 inches might be 1/3rd of the total for the entire year! A lot of our rain arrives frozen, anyway, as winter snow.

Well, covering a side-dressing with some soil and hilling up around the plants helps. Do you think that there's any soil out there, HPQ, or only mud at this time?? Four weeks after setting out is usually a good time for me to re-apply some fertilizer. Whether I do that again after another 4 weeks or not doesn't seem to matter a whole lot, for most things. The organic fertilizer I use seems to take a little while before it's depleted.

I can just imagine, however, all that rain just washing the nutrients away from the small plants.

Ack! And we're having a draught here in SE Missouri. No rain in over a month, and dry before that, even. Now that I finally have the time to garden for the first time in my life, Global Warming is ruining it for me!! (How's that for self-centered? :D) Sorry, HPQ. I feel your pain, as we have had seasons like yours, too, with rain every day, then more rain. Last April we had the wettest month ever, now this April the driest. Go figure.

We just got a couple of inches ourselves... its been CONSTANT rain rain rain this May. I've never seen so much rain during this month living here.

Remember how my pond was a PUDDLE last year from drought. It was down more then 6-7 ft from where it was supposed to be. I swear its come up 4 ft since January!!! :ep

We have had more rain this month than what is normal...west of us got 10 inches of rain in just a few hours...needless to say they got flooding...I think we are due to have some of the hot humid that got pushed in our direction from the tropical strom...the sun came out today before it set...
