I drove West in my mis-spent youth. I always said that I could see the large sign, "You are now entering Nebraska" and the very tiny, "You are now leaving Nebraska" at the identical moment -- the state was that flat. Certainly the sun was setting directly on the road in front of me from the first sign to the last at 60 mph. Nearly went blind driving through Nebraska.

I nearly didn't read this thread ;).

I think it's tragic when friendly clowns and cute, little girls are made out in movies to be frightening. If anything is frightening in this genre of childhood and toy imagery, it should be toy soldiers ...

Actually, I thought you were replacing whimsical garden gnomes with toy soldiers, NyBoy. I'm not in favor.

Straight rows in the veggie garden? I'm pretty good at that. Years ago, when I used a string, it was often windy and my rows were in an arc o_O. "Tighten the string!" you are probably thinking. Well, I tried that. Got it so tight it bowed UP! Talking about scary scenarios ... imagine if a stake came loose!

No really, what I do is sight down the intended row and pick out landmarks. Pebbles, rocks, boulders - the trick is to navigate between these impediments! There is where the real skill comes in play ...

I think a lot of people are secretly afraid of clowns. Hiding emotions behind a mask, fake smile that hides any real feelings, always with an almost forced laugh. Too much, too big, too suspicious, too fake, too scary.

NO! Thanks for asking. I have played a clown in a school program and have been on the Howdy-Doody show where I helped Clarabel do tricks.

I just understand why some people would not like them. Many children do not like clowns. Children, even very young babies, recognize the fake clown smile and are uneasy with it.
Also, since every clown must register their clown face, they are getting more and more weird.

My DD is afraid of them. She would hide under table at Chuckie Cheeses

I'm more of an "if it fits it grows" kind of person in both the flower bed and with my veggies. Flowers more so than veggies but I know my creepers will sprawl so I don't sweat it like I used to.

Far as clowns go...I'm not afraid of them but I'm not really a fan either. I appreciate their efforts but I'm not one to look them in the eye and have an in depth discussion. They just don't set well with me.

The Howdy Doody studio was in Chicago. My brother's cub scout troop took a field trip there. Since Mom was the den mother and I was too little to stay alone, I got to go along. Are there really tapes of those old programs on U-Tube? Who would'a thought! Chicago is not too far from south-est, central-est Wisconsin as the freeway runs.
