im not sure but i want to say river birch maybe but people here seems more educated than me when it comes to identifying nature

Mulberry! Moras alba!

I know because I work in a kindergarten classroom and we are raising silkworms.

And silkworms only eat the leaves of mulberry.

Those bracts are developing, yummy mulberry fruit...
 
do they taste good and what methods are they used for
 
Yes, they are edible and have a mild flavor. You can make jams, jellies, pies from them. There is a white mulberry and a purple one.

no- but some of the birds that try to steal all those berries might...
They are worth growing. To distract the birdies from your other trees at least. They tasted sorta bland, compared to some of the other berries, but I still enjoyed them.
