trying to catch up in the bean patch

early morning picking:

I did look back on 'o9 and learned that I commented on my 1st beefsteak tomato on the 20th of August. Wow! And, that may have been a fairly normal season . . .

No way I can catch up to Whitewater or anyone else in the tomato patch but . . . along with 1 more bucket, this amounts to a pile of beans!

Wow!! How many beans do you have to plant to get this harvest?

There are 3 double rows about 35 feet long. This morning was the 1st picking.

Got the snapbeans, bought some sweet corn at the farmers market, got a pocket full of cherry tomatoes and hope to find another cucumber tomorrow. Along with a splash of apple cider vinegar for the cuke and some whole wheat crackers - that's a common summertime lunch for me .

I'll have to wait a couple weeks for my own sweet corn :/. There were almost more zucchini than I can carry Tuesday and another load out there already!

They aren't pole beans, for some reason (lapse of memory ), I didn't plant those until July.

Are they really ahead of a zone 6 garden?

Nothing special was done to get them started or protect from the cold . . . the plants are a little stunted this year because of the cold June and the wind.

I didn't plant any bush beans this year, just pole beans. I bought some heirloom Appalachian pole beans this year and I suspect that might have something to do with it! I put them in right after my last frost date.

Those are some fine lookin' beans! I'd think you don't have to catch up to me about anything!

my pole beans JUST started to get blossoms 3 days ago. I have no beans.

(I also have no more beets, but that's a tale for another day!)

So you can sit back and brag all you want about your beans. My tomatoes may have shown up early, but your beans totally beat me.

Wow, that's a lot of beans! I can't wait for it to cool off enough here to plant mine, I love fresh green beans. That's a winter crop for me though, they don't do well with 100+ temperatures for 3 months.
