Garden Master
I inherited that book and many, many other wonderful do-it-yourself books (gardens, chickens, hunting wildmushrooms, butchering, etc.) from my father-in-law who passed away a little over a year ago. We shared many of the same interests and it was good bonding between us. I was always borrowing them from his "library" before. It is certainly a worthy heritage to pass down and the wisdom in these books is timeless. I hope my children will express an interest in them some day as well.
I am certainly going to try your potato basket method next year. Thanks for sharing the video. I could not find part 2 though. Has it been made yet?
I had heard of growing them in a similar manner in a large trashcan or barrel. After having the lower halves of 3 long rows of potatoes wash out on me with the excess rain we had last year, I am eager to try this. I have so much extra chicken wire lying around.
My dad will appreciate it too, as he has had rotten luck with potatoes the past two years (I think he needs to rotate his crop space and build it back up with some green manure and organic matter). He has Parkinson's disease, so I believe this will be easier for him to manage and hopefully reward him with a nice payout.
You have talked me into it, I will definitely have to try out SS. Hope you will pop in here often and share more of your gardening tips with us!
