plan "b" invite a bunch of friends over for a stump digging bbq.
everyone digs around the roots of the stump, chainsaw the roots and everyone pulls the stump out,fill in the hole... then feed them.

That's a great idea. Except, when I mention the work part to them. The cushioned chairs would get unfolded and the beer tabs would pop. Although, they would likely talk about how best to remove it. That's about as far as that project would go.

I had a maple stump in the middle of a daylily bed that kept sprouting. I decided to leave it but it annoyed the heck out of me. It was not a giant but fairly large. I happened to have a small amount of gas that had gotten water in it. It sat around in the gas can forever because I did not know had to dispose of it. I got the bright idea to pour it on the stump. The next seasont he stump was rotted enough to run a tiller through. I don't know if it was the gas or not but it seemed to have hurried the decomposition along.
