Update on vertical gardening

So, instead of posting pictures in a bunch of different threads. I'll put them here.




The strawberries have exceeded my expectations. Every plant has a bunch of flowers. That is our first big strawberry. I didn't get to taste it. The little girl from next door picked and ate it. My kids have decided to wait until there are more ready. I figure we'll get 10 or so in the next week.


Not really vertical. But, the morning glories lived and have started climbing the fence. I can't wait till they bloom!


This is the yard as a whole. Things are doing better than I ever hoped.
For some reason TEG didn't like the size of the pictures for the potatoes and peas. So, when I get a chance I'll get some pictures of those.

Yes. She's 2. She comes every evening and tries to pet the chickens. The stay far away from her though. But, I knew the berry was there and figured she'd like it. My kids are waiting for the "big" harvest next week. I think big is relative at 9 & 5.

Here's the rest of the vertical stuff. It accepted the pictures but, turned them all sideways. Oh well.


This is the pea pole. We have about 12 peas planted around it. I'm hoping they all climb and yield lots.


The potatoes are growing out of the sides and have completely taken over the inside. They have finally quit shooting up though.

I've seen pics of that way to grow strawberries all over the place, but never had anyone actually post how it works. Glad to see it's turning out well! I finally just gave up the strawberry beds & planted them as groundcover in my flower beds. They definitely stay much more weed-free that way!

When we get our forever home (in 7 years) I want to do that. But, for now we'll use that system since we can move it when we go. This whole project had been an experiment just to see if we could get anything to grow.

TReeves hi, The PVC upright, is that watered by a pump with a timer? Looks good.

Just looked at the picture again, the 3/4 or 1/2" pipe must be the supply line?

The PVC is upright we got the biggest length we could find at 5 ft. Sunk it into the ground about a foot fitted it with dirt and plants. No pump or timer. The 3/4" pipe is the supply line. It hooks into the waterhose and runs across to the faucet. We leave the faucet on a slow drip about 30 minutes twice a day.
