Probably you water your garden. I mostly don't. They seem to like that.

Pat, waiting to see if the carrot and bok choy baited live trap works (I flushed the darn rabbit in the bushes while setting it! Cheeky thing.)

My gosh, you all have more volunteers than an Army cookie-tasting contest!

My only volunteers are tomato plants from tomatos that fell at the end of the fall season. And one time a peach pit from the compost pile turned into quite the cute little tree.

Lots of volunteers in my garden too - tulips, crocuses, allium, monarda, aquilegia, catmint, strawberries (like a ground cover!), poppies (3 million!), sedum.

And the bad ones - thistles, quack grass,

hollyhocks
poppies ( a couple of varieties)
verbascum ( it grows like a foot a day!)

I love the volunteers. Each year is a different picture. I was unfortunate that my "flying" Golden Dutch bantams ate every shirley poppy they could find; so this year it is almost bare in my eyes.

Here is 2009 (front door; I have two front doors LOL)

Here is 2008 (almost the same angle. Note the Red Shirley Poppies)

And here is one from 2003 (what a change... I see Hollyhocks)

Too fun, ... my front is an area that I never have to turn or supplement. It is the hardest pan/clay junk soil imaginable.

Rosalind, sounds like you could open a nursery with all your volunteers and feral plants!

Or add new meaning to the phrase "yard sale"
