Good grief, how could you have known that anyway? They were the rude ones, IMO.

If it comes with a price tag, at least he could make that known. No need to feel like a martyr or taken advantage of. It's called speaking up for yourself! It's hard to tell what someone might pay to obtain a start of an endangered variety.

I dont understand why your post was banned at all. So what if in the past someone was taken advantage of, or felt like they were. Its not like you're FORCING him to respond to your post or send you anything, you just posted a few questions and stated what you're interested in. Whoever was "offended" or bothered by your post because of the history could have just ignored it. Ridiculous.

I don't see how you badmouthed anything.

I heard not too recently from a fellow HG member, Joseph, that Alan is still around but his profile say that he was last online "Jul 11, 2012 at 11:23pm." I do understand why he no longer participates because people are too demanding though. It's pretty bad when you're forced out of your own forum.

It seems like you had good luck in finding your Campbell tomatoes. If nobody speaks up I could try asking an HG member, but in another year or too as I fear I've already asked for too much.

Most people on (many of them breeders) there do like some kind of return. It may be in the form of payment, feedback or seeds from what you grow out from the seed that they're giving you. An HG member, in return for giving Red her cloudberry seeds, is asking for feedback on how the plants do.

I have been in that situation, on another forum, where there got to be a great focus on sharing and trading seeds and plants. I loved sharing my plants, but it got a bit overwhelming having to decline trade offers, or postage paid boxes because all they had to trade was seeds. And I'm sure some of you have been on the unfortunate end of a sour trade or two. :/ There was a policy on that site that you could not sell, only trade or collect postage costs though.
I can imagine what it would be like if you had things that are very rare and in high demand. (well, higher in demand than hostas )

I pmed Joseph telling him I intended to pay for the seeds and I was not attacking, badmouthing Alan. I told him I only mentioned Alan because the other people I have talked to told me to contacted Alan, in other words don't tell me "contact Alan" I already tried. He responded with this...

You are not posting onto a blank page. You are posting into a forum in which the owner has been attacked over and over again by people demanding that he respond to their requests for germplasm. Often times without any thought of even reimbursing Alan for postage, let alone for the days or weeks worth of labor associated with acquiring, creating, and/or preserving each variety. Alan is a farmer: Not a seed company. I think that he is tired of being taken advantage of.

And in general I do not allow complaining about other people's habits or way of doing things. (Seemed like complaining to me.) This is a forum about plants, homesteading, etc. It is not a forum to critique other people's harmless habits. No harm was done to you or to a blackberry because Alan didn't reply.

I'm definitely not returning to that site.
