Yellow Doll is what I've found at the farmers markets here. I asked the growers/sellers and that's what I was told they were. And I'm north of you for what it's worth.

I buy them when I want some because we don't eat enough watermelon to justify the space needed.

I don't think it's all latitude. There are probably places farther north that get more summer heat, and that's what makes melons do well isn't it?

@Zeedman reminded me of this company. I haven't ordered from them for years. Their seed packets are economical but tiny. With a broad selection and even lots of books and gifts I think they are one of the best catalog outfits available.

Oregon's Territorial Seed sends me a catalog every year. Expensive seed but maybe their shipping is cheaper. They may send me a catalog because I say nice things about them.

Besides having a lot to choose from (with some unique things), they also give an honest assessment of days to maturity. Nowhere else are you likely to see such late times and I think it's from their trial garden experience. Cool climate in the Coast Range of western Oregon.

And, they have those Mini Love watermelons!

Latitude, summer heat ... I'm not quite right about elevation either, @thistlebloom . If it was a say 2,500 feet limit, Colorado gardeners in the Wild West would never have watermelon since they don't have a single acre at that elevation.

 Steve
