Just so you know obsessed... everyone in my family is over weight.. .it just is what it is with us. Its HARD to control. And I'm a good eater. I don't eat red meat or pork, and I cut back on a ton of things like cookies and sweets. I'm a one a day junky... 1 cookies, or 1 peanut butter cup, or one pack of crackers. I will eat carrots and apples and bananas like there is no tomorrow. Love the stuff!

However, eating at 10pm I just can't break that habit!!! :he

Anyways... My mom, dad, younger brother, younger sister, aunts, uncles and my older cousin ALL have diabetes...

Other then my younger cousins and my grandfather... I JUST found out last week I do not have diabetes!!! :ya I think I am doing better then I thought.... but I would feel better if I could only lose this 20lb already!!!! :thumbsup

But I'm on your side, Obsessed! If you need support... we're all here. I will push through with you... because I am dieting and working out now... or will get back to it as soon as I'm over this infection I have. :sick

I am DEFINITELY trying to AVOID AVOID AVOID Type 2 diabetes.
Then stay away from carbohydrates.

For every 50g or carbs regardless of the source it is the equivalent of 1/4 cup of sugar.

Use www.fitday.com (it's free) to track your food intake. You will surprised how much sugar a person gets in a day even if they avoid sweets.

I WAS pre-diabetic. I had horrible hypoglycemic swings and high blood pressure. It's gone now :D

Obsessed, I did WW several years ago and lost 40 pounds and I still use the WW method today. When I made up my mind that I was going to loose weight and get fit it became an obsession. I was in the gym 6 days a week and didn't miss a WW meeting. You have to be committed to just do it. Make sure you go to the meetings, it's great support. The recipes in the books are great - they use fresh fruit and veggies. Get rid of any food in your house that will tempt you. If you have support from friends and family it's much easier.

Exercise! On my lunch hour at work, I walk our warehouse even if it's just 15 minutes. When I go shopping I park as far away from the building as I can so I can walk it. I take stairs instead of elevators. Any exercise you can get out of your day will help.

Good luck!

Thank you for that link Wife! I am going to use this site from now on... I wish they had a Blackberry app for my phone (I love my phone, I get to play online IN the garden!!!).

I am going to try to share this with my friend Stef. I'm trying to get her to do Yoga with me, but she really fizzles out on support after about 2 weeks of trying anything!!!

Wife, do you know this site says my BMI is over 30 and I am catagoried as obese? I think this site is a bit off in their ideas of what is ok. So for now I am going to ignore that information and move on.

I like this! :frow Yay, Joan!

People have asked me why I don't get a disabled parking permit. Believe me, it is tempting but even tho' I don't want to go a mile, I can walk less than that . . . and back. I do not like fighting my way into a parking space near the door. I use a cane and go the distance.

Going downstairs is movement, almost not exercise. Still, any movement is better than none. Climbing a flight of stairs at various rates of speed should count for just about anyone.

The best exercise for me is in the garden - lots of stretching. And, I try to stay flexible thru the winter with "Classical Stretch" on teevee.

There are many excuses for limiting exercise; I try not to use them ;).

Good for you Steve! I NEVER jockey for a close space - When I grocery shop at Wal-Mart I always park in the same exact spot and don't have to worry about door dings from other cars! It's heartbreaking to see - especially in Wal-Mart - obese people that need to use the mobile carts to do their shopping. I blame that in part on the "food-like" substance on the shelves.
