Went Dog "Shopping" Today

I didn't get a chance to interact with her yet. They actually asked me ( and I guess all visitors) not to touch the dogs, so as not to spread disease. If the dog is available for adoption, I plan to go spend some time with her, see if she has basic obedience training, and see how she interacts. Thanks for the tips, Nyboy. I do plan to use a crate.
I don't even know if there is a petfinder.com for my area, Major, but I will check it out.

Next to gardening, petting a dog is the best kind of therapy in my experience. I can't imagine life without a dog by my side anymore. I'm sure with a little searching you can find a dog that will be the right fit for your family. Potty training a puppy might be too stressful for you all right now. A calmer, older dog could be just what the doc ordered though. Good luck in your search!

ETA: It's good if they'll let you take the dog out and walk it for a bit too. Very good way to see what kind of dog you're working with there.

I do think @journey11 is right, puppies are a lot of work, a trained dog is so much easier.

I struggle with depression and my dogs are my life, along with the grands in AR. Even the kitties are special. One of my dogs can tell I'm heading downwards, and does his best to be glued to my side.

What you need to ask yourself, if by some chance your husband rejects having a dog are you willing to do all the work involved with a dog yourself.

On the flip side of the equation ... With way over a 1,000 dogs that have become very ill with the dog flu that has been traced to S. Korea and some have already died in Chicago and now reported to have spread into adjoining States. There is no vaccine for it, just a huge Vet. bill to treat. The humane society has been importing dogs meant for meat from S. Korea as well as street dogs from the Gulf islands. So be careful as it could become quite emotionally draining if the dog were to become ill of die as well as very expensive to treat.
