I was going to say sugar baby watermelon. But they do not have the stripes. Still they look like some kind of melon to me.

i'm thinking watermelon too. but those leaves are different from what i would expect to come from a watermelon. maybe it is some sort of cross?

There are some little round cuke varieties out there. Did you get these from Baker Creek?

Yeah, those are not watermelon leaves. To me the leaves could be anything from squash, cantaloupe, cucumber, or gourd leaves. They look small for pumpkins Im used to. I dont see a lot of tendrils holding those vines to the fence. It looks more like they have been woven into the fence.

My first guess would be some type of melon. There are a whole lot in that family other than watermelon and cantaloupe. I really dont think that fruit is cucumber. Some type of winter squash or gourd wouldnt shock me, but that just looks like a melon of some type to me.

Have you considered splitting one open to see what it looks like inside?

after looking over what Johnny's has on their site i'm wondering if they could have grown any of their armenian cukes too close to any melons and they cross pollinated. armenian cukes are closer related to melons and i think i've heard those can cross easily. i'm thinking its not going to be a watermelon cross after all. i hope whatever it is it will be sweet tasting for you!

I went to Johnnys to look up the scientific name of striped Armenian cucumbers and got cucumis melo. Then I Googled cucumis melo and got cantaloupe.

When I go to Reimer Seeds and look up striped Armenian cucumbers, I get Cucumis sativus. Those are cucumbers, not melons.

I think Johnnys screwed up way back in their bookkeeping. Itll be interesting to hear how they respond to you.

Enjoy your melons.

This is the first year of mislabeled seed/odd seed in a packet

From tomato growers supply
had a stray tomato seed in my Howard German

From burpee
Parsley labeled as romaine lettuce

And of course my mystery from Johnny's

And have a couple mislabeled bell pepper plants bought
From lowes wanted fajita bell Another mystery.

Anyone else had this happen?
