What are some must have tools for a farm?

Hmm, gift cards might be the way to go. I just sat down and did the math and if we left everything behind and bought all new there...we'd save about $500 as compared to moving it. That's not including money if we managed to sell some of it instead of just giving it away.

Rototiller. A mantis to start small. A troy built for a large garden. Of course a tractor if you can afford. But, I think best to start small .

Hmmmm, that's very interesting. I had never even considered not taking everything when moving. Does your $500 savings estimate include purchasing all new stuff?

I was going to suggest the gift certificate, too. Just be sure it is for a place that has stores in WV, and that it doesn't have an expiration date. You could wrap it with a toy tractor, or just a picture of some farm equipment, to give him the idea.

Or since your move is still quite a ways off, you could get him something he can also use now, like a Carhartt jacket, insulated coveralls, a good pair of work boots maybe?

My favorite garden tool is a spading fork.

But, not a t-handle or d-handle one. I'm a little too tall for those.

I suppose it depends on soil type. It just works well for me and with permanent paths and beds, the soil is cultivated easily to a good depth.

Yes and no. Everything in our house furniture wise is from Goodwill. We just don't buy "new" stuff. The few things we did buy new are electronics that would easily fit in our SUV for the drive over. We'll be staying with my sister for the first few months, so we'd have plenty of time to thrift shop there. I did look on Ikea to see what pricing might be for new, but none of the prices I saw were terribly outrageous.


Don't tell him, but I decided to go with the saw idea. In particular, I got him a mieter saw. (if thats how it is spelled?)

Its small so it would definitely fit in or on top of the SUV, and since we hand made all the coops here, it will sure come in handy making coops there. I'm pretty pleased with it.
