This is the first of the seed-grown crops for 2020. We have had some 2019 bok choy that survived and appreciated having the plastic film pulled over them in March. We could have started seed in the heated greenhouse and transplanted them under the hoophouse but I don't know that we would be bringing them into the kitchen any sooner. I suppose so.
These have been in freezing conditions several times over the last few weeks. It's only a few degrees warmer in there than the outdoor, overnight temperature, especially if there hasn't been any sunshine through the daylight hours. I haven't put a heater in the hoophouse yet this spring.
Some little plants from a second sowing of seed are now in an outdoor bed.
We had sauteed asparagus and elephant garlic scapes tonight. We never had scapes before. I tried them raw and they were a bit spicy. But man, after sauteeing, they were good!
