Today I replanted volunteer petunias, planted marigold plants, and some herb seeds that I got from Richter's: comfrey, calendula, cancer bush, mignonette, camomile, valerian, maralroot and white yarrow. In the past week I planted cantaloupe, cucumber, dill and fennel. I only have pole beans, a few peppers and a hill of zucchini to go, plus what ever else I can squeeze in. :D Oh, and some okra, due to bad germination on the Clemson.

Got my tee pees in place today and planted my pole beans under them. Also planted the squash. Played in the garden all day! Carried about a zillion gallons of water to hand water everything today. Planned an azalea bed for under the pine trees, much to the chagrin of my DH. I had to convince him that it wouldn't cause any extra work for him, mowing around them. Guess everyone has different priorities! ;)

Wellp, my bed of Breadseed Poppy only sprouted maybe one seedling, and that was after overseeding with the rest of the packet. Seed for it seemed kind of small for Poppy seed of the food kind.

So I planted a dozen Fanomen Beans, a variety I know nothing about, 17 more Hutterite Bean seeds, Finished off a very old packet of crossed up Double Click Cosmos, and tucked in a couple dozen California Blackeye Cowpeas. I have not grown those since 1964!!!

I actually tucked in a few more seeds yesterday. Among the "Large White Lima" that only had a dozen sprout, I planted "Yellow Seeded White Greasy", another selection from the appalachian Amish White Greasies. Behind the "Anasazi" bush beans I planted 7 "Indian Woman Yellow" seeds that were selected from an individual plant that had been making the longest pods consistently.

Planted some Provider Bush beans today from Annie's Heirloom Seeds. Never tried these before, probably bought them because, 1 it's an heirloom, and 2 the packet says they germinate under cooler conditions than other green beans. I know mid May is early up here, last frost isn't usually till the end of the month. But with the weather predicted for the next couple of weeks I'm going to risk it. In fact I may plant my two other varieties in a few days.

I put off buying pepper plants so I wouldn't be tempted to put them out too early. Didn't try to grow from seed for the same reason. and today I went to my fav near-home garden store to get a few plants. Darn!:barnie They are sold out of everyting but ancho and an Italian sweet that looks kinda like a marconi. Since our season has been so early here, they probably won't get any more in. So I bought two of the sweet and one ancho. And of course they had aphids but I can get rid of them with a strong squirt from the hose. So that's what I'll be planting this evening after sunset. And some of the herbs I grew from seed: Maralroot, chamomile, oregano, yarrow, calendula, mignonette (I know, not really beneficial, but it is supposed to smell good) And I think I'll plant some okra in the chicken yard to give them shade.
