What Did You Do In The Garden?

Got some time to play in the garden yesterday...

Carrots that I planted back before I got the spring garden ready. I decided just to leave them be instead of trying to transplant. I direct seeded more carrots in the garden as well.

Sugar Snap Peas... hopefully they'll produce before the hot weather moves in. The remaining lettuce that the June Bugs haven't devoured is peeking out of the planter.

Weeded the corn and sunflowers, but the other little area has bell pepper, jalapeno pepper, and okra seedlings coming up so I didn't want to accidentally pull something I didn't intend to. The okra had to be replanted as well due to the June Bug infestation. The peppers are just waiting on some sunshine and warmer weather!

More sunflowers, yellow squash, zucchini, bush beans, and cucumbers. I'm sure if they all make it I will have to nix a few to make some room. We'll see how they grow.

That's a trellis for the tomatoes (who are also waiting on some sunshine and warmer weather. If you look real close you can see the seedlings just hanging out.

Started an asparagus bed. Hopefully it will outgrow this little planter, but it's a start. That clover will go to our new buns, but it's being rationed so we don't hurt their little tummies.

And finally, we had a visit from a little friend. Our two littles (the teenager cared for a whopping 15 seconds, if that) just loved him (or her, I've never thought about sexing a turtle).

My peppers spent the night out and now getting moved around all morning.

Usually I'm okay seeding my pepper the same time I do everything else, but with the crazy weather this year they just don't want to take off. The local meteorologist said that in April we got 5 inches over the average rainfall and the weather has been cooler than average as well. It makes it hard to plan gardens.

90% of garden is in. Now I'm adding hard to find plants-for me, poblano peppers, San Marzano tomatoes-planted them between rain showers. Yet to find eggplant-not looking hard as I'm unsure on them-or Marconi peppers. Marconi peppers I think I'll strike out on as only person who had them thinks they are gold-not to me.

Probably too late for this year, but if you want some Marconi seed for next year, just let me know.

@thistlebloom LOL. Never know. DW gets pretty mad at me sometimes....... With life insurance, death benefits, etc, I am worth more dead than alive. Although I'm in NO hurry to leave her a rich widow. We aren't promised tomorrow, so I try to live in today.

 

[Gardening with Rabbits]

Nothing done for days. I see a lot of weeds coming, but what is planted is really growing. The plants on the patio are the best I think I ever had. My tomatoes and peppers are strong. I have squash and cucumber plants. I am pretending I am not behind since the plants are strong. The only thing making me upset are the onions that need planting. I am just not well enough yet. Getting better, so maybe soon I will be planting something.

Several busy weekends trying to get it all done! Garden is bigger than ever. DH added another 30 ft of raised beds! I spent a lot of time weeding while he got most everything planted that had been started early (too early) . I then I watered those in. Late yesterday we expanded my sunny flower bed and bought mulch. The peas, greenbeans and potatoes are up and looking good. Now to keep the rabbits out!

Since my garden soil seems to be shrinking, I had to get some topsoil to supplement what is there. Not sure about it. It certainly looks different from Missouri top soil. It's from Georgia. Kinda grey when dried out. Has some sand in it. Hopefully it will blend in well with the reddish clay soil and brown compost. (not worried about color scheme, just grow-ability)
