Statistically odd frost warnings in my area caused me to have to cover my beds and banana plants.

I left my cucumbers unpeotected though, so we'll see what happens there :(

Seriously?!?! It's late May! What's with the frost?

Put in broccoli and moved a lot of plants around in my combination rhubarb, strawberry and asparagus bed. I extended it to allow for wider spacing, so then proceeded to space wider on all plants. Then started putting more compost cover in there to protect moisture and build the bed deeper.

Corn and beans are up, as are cukes. Soon I'll be able to hill that stuff and then apply some hay there.

Strawberries getting ripe....taste soooooo much better than from the store, don't they? So very sweet!

I feel behind but I'm often late with somethings that could be early. The very changeable weather is much of the reason I'm late. That's not causing any feelings of guilt. It's really jerking us around and May is passing.

A pleasant backyard setting ... :)

Cucumbers are the first to show damage from the lightest fall frost. I'm not sure if I remember spring frost and the cukes. They have been a crop that I have only set out as transplants in recent years. Seed in the garden this year would probably be in danger of rotting. As it is, they are up and growing in the greenhouse and coming out on pleasant afternoons in the shade. (When was the last time we had a pleasant afternoon?)

Good luck Sprig'.

who struggled through the wind to get a bed of celeriac starts in. Those might be something that could take cold conditions but foot dragging delays putting them out.

Edit: at 5:30, the greenhouse is now 51°f and the hoop house is 44°. With the overnight breeze dropping, the greenhouse is showing its better heat-retention but that is the coldest it's been in there in 2+ months. The plants can't be happy but should be okay. I decided that I would leave the furnace off. Maybe if I just begin to ignore the thermometer in the AM ...

in MN, that is not very late... we don't plan on planting any of the warm season crops here until the end of this month. up further north i'd add a few weeks to that. i never actually gardened much when i was up north (in the UP of MI). still they managed to get some crops in and harvested in time. the season may start later, but the days get long. :)

Second weekend of May is usually the safe time to plant in my location, so for us it's late. I heard the local powers are actually thinking about pushing the last frost date back into April :/

Glad you got things covered and hope the cucumbers will be okay.

The cucumbers surprisingly did well. My peppers Zuchinni? Nope :( luclily I had some more starts inside for some of my things but I had to put a bunch of seeds to soil yesterday when I got home

it's been way too cool here to plant out peppers already. we'll get them from the greenhouse this week, but we'll harden them off and plant them out towards the end of the month.

[later edit] we had a few nights this past few days of mid-30s...

I am starting to think being late is a good idea this year. It is cold outside. I was going to put my tomatoes and peppers outside, but they are still in the greenhouse.
