Well obviously I was sick and weak for awhile. I still made myself go out and do a little weeding, stuck some seeds in the ground, and just minor stuff. Good news is the weather was cooler then usual, there was good moisture, and hubby was helpful with the things I needed until I felt completely better and got my energy back.

Now that I'm completely recovered I got back to the heavy duty stuff, so its not so much what I did today but the last week I've been hitting the garden everyday with the finishing touches for the season and today I got to enjoy some of the rewards of my work.

I did some flower planting, annuals were late getting in... but they're in! I was happy to find out waiting worked in my favor. I didn't buy zinnia or petunia this year as I found the pots I put the petunia in had sprouted a bunch more from seed from last year and should be getting buds in only a couple of weeks. So saved $$$ and time on those. Same with the zinnia in the front beds. There are so many sprouting I did have to thin them a bit. When they really get going I'll dig up and move a few to the veggie beds and leave the rest since I wanted them there. Again... saving $$$ and my time!

But.... bellflowers went in, lantana went in for the humming birds this year, added some other fun annuals I've never tried before to fill in the side bed until I can afford perennials. I've weeded around the rows in the back beds, added a few more cuke and watermelon seeds. (I only have 1 more row to weed out and plant, and I don't even know what I want to plant there.) I've cleaned the bird bath and hummingbird feeders and refilled all of it. I even cleaned the 2 chicken coops, duck pen and quarentine pen the meat birds were occupying. Then I moved the new birds into the coop, moved the meat birds into the tractor pen and moved them out to the garden rows to finish my weeding for me! Maybe they'll get lucky and eat that danged mole I haven't caught yet?!

And my rewards?! The gorgeous flowers in bloom, we're eating fresh snow peas and lettuce now. The potatoes are ready so when I find time we'll dig those up. We're eating strawberries from the yard EVERYDAY this week. I even found a bunch of green raspberries so they're next. I found several green tomatoes already! With how crazy this spring has been. I'm finally happy to see things responding to my love and work. All the little fruits, veggies and flowers saying "Hey, you're doing alright kid!"

Picture LOVE!

Nice to see things going so good for you VFEM!

Yesterday I gobbled up the organic store bought orange fleshed honeydew. Whoa it was good! Almost too good. Now, that was some kind of hybrid F1. Had the texture similar to an old Noir de Carmes, believe it or not. It was 4.2 pounds, a good medium sized, and for a honeydew, kind of fragrant right through the skin. It's seeds were kind of small but definitely ripe. So of course, I cleaned the seeds in the sieve, laid them out on a towel, then later in the day, set them on first the absorbent paper plate, then before bed, poured and spread them on a large paper plate with a note describing the seeds and melon. Tag on it said Mexico. Probably harvested May 1st. Even for down there, it'd have to have been an early maturing hybrid. I kind of like what they did breeding that one up!

One of these seasons I'm growing out a bunch of melons that I saved seed of that were hybrids, and cross them all up. Yea. Cross them up with some heirlooms too.

=====

I also cut down the 2 tyfon holland greens, a variety of turnip, that I'd let go to seed. They had not yet dried, but I saw aphids on them. Killed a lot of aphids, yucch. Snipped off each stalk of pods and set them in a wire basket to dry, first in the sun. Seeds in the pods should be good. Not as ripe as I wanted, but ripe enough.

=====

Other than that I only weeded and watered my garden yesterday.

Finally got to start today. Green beans, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, onions (I know too late but at least they have a chance), eggplants, cabbage. Worked a while, then rested. All in all pleasant day

DH made a run for compost and garden soil from the county. We did not have enough to fill the 2 NEW raised beds. :) Then got the last of the tomaotes in. (30) Also planted the scarlet runner beans on the new hoop trellis , for Grandsons. (Put purple podded pole beans on the other side.) Brought the tiller home and tilled small garden and sunflower beds around the garage.
I worked in flower beds, pulling weeds and adding a few new lillies and some snap dragons. Also potted up all my pots for the deck and front porch. Annuals are in, mostly.Cleaned off the back deck and served dinner out there and enjoyed the lovely weather. :) It was a good and productive day. Even taking some time out to go to a graduation party for a set of triplets that road my school bus K-6th grade. Great kids. :coolsun

I believe I finished all my seeding and reseeding today. First time that's ever happened before memorial day!

I organized my seed cans with new labels on some of them today, and got them all in the same sized coffee cans now. Been saving up on small coffee cans to do that. Got those I planted in the top 3 drawers, those not planted in the bottom drawer and the plastic dresser.

Decided I am going to need another dresser for seeds, and another wardrobe for clothes, lol! Before July is over actually!!! Reason is, My newly planted varieties in the garden don't have their own cans yet, which I will have early June, but I have many new varieties and selections and no drawer space yet for them.

Today, I showed up at the garden twice. First, the last of the zucchini went in - where the bok choy is coming out. I say the "last" but if I can get the early cabbage harvested, or if the rabbit just kills it :/, zucchini may go in there in early July.

The cucumbers are planted in their bed near a sprinkler.

The 1st few rows of sweetcorn were sown . . . Then, I turned on the sprinklers and made an escape!

Back to turn the water off, I began building the 1st pea trellis. The wet ground made it possible to drive the posts in easily:
