Steve, they don't get it. HE's don't write things down, don't ask for directions, etc. yet they date us and pick us for marriage.

Some very good things to help set them up. All will be good. Appreciate all inputs.

Besides, I have a great time watching them, giving them a hard time. Win-win! Before you feel sorry for them, they love to hassle me because I'm mechanically handicapped-even though my dad was a master mechanic.

. . . some little simple thing I've done

I'm just a soul who's intentions are good
Oh Lord, please, don't let me be misunderstood

Seed , For some jollies... Have them tune in to the TV program of " Naked and Afraid " . A wake up call to the know it all' s where even the experienced have a real hard time making it in the big wide wild world of hard knocks. No clothes, only a machete and a flint for one man and one woman... :ep

"...wants to live off the land"

My Amish farrier doesn't live off of the land!! They buy/sell/trade with others in the community AND they travel by truck to local cities to get the rest of the stuff that they need, INCLUDING Champaign-Urbana, where we work!!
I think that newbies should be reading books like Square Foot Gardening, and start small. It is so discouraging when you first start bc you don't know:
1) what is easy to grow
2) what you are comfortable doing in your garden
When your seeds don't come up you don't know whether it's the seeds or something else (soil and weather and watering).
When you buy a plant or tree or flower and it dies, you don't know whether it's easy to grow or hard to grow, or what it the right spot for it, OR, if it's too far north to grow.
MY ADVICE: Start slow and join this Forum, read everything about the plants you want to grow online :caf and DON'T GIVE UP!! :clap

Of course, if they join the forum, they will know they have been thoroughly discussed! :duc

Only lovingly and with the kindest of thoughts toward helping them get started. And THEY haven't been thoroughly discussed. Just the idea of starting from nothing to self-sufficency in one year has been pretty much talked out. We wouldn't know who they are if they joined tomorrow and Seedcorn would never give them away.
