What Funny Names Are In Your Family?

My Daddy was the youngest of 7 children. By the time he was born, his momma was out of ideas and named him JB. That's it. Not initials, didn't stand for anything, just JB.

Daddy had a female cousin named Jeppie Hise (first and middle name) southerners generally use both first and middle names. That name never fails to make me wonder--where the heck did that come from?

My Mother had an aunt named Ottlie and her grandmother was named Willie.

So what funny names are in your family?

Not all that strange, but my BIL's name was Charles Junior Byrns. Can't tell you the number of times his name was switched to Charles Byrns, Jr. Of course, that only lead to more problems when his first son, Charles Byrns, Jr. was born.

Again not strange, but I recently met someone who was in Dad's fifth grade with the girl I was named after. So now I know Linnae Caine was a.) a really good student, b.) was in Dad's class the year I was born, and c.) had a name Dad and Mom could agree on.

The Church wasn't quite as happy with their choice of first and second names (Linnae Darlene) so I was given a third (Anne) at Baptism and a fourth (Marie) at Confirmation. That puts my name one shy of Dad's -- Rolla Bruce Lyle John Henry Shufelt, III, unless we count my married surname with my birth surname.

I had a great-grandmother named Nannie; not a nickname, but her given name. My sister's middle name is Blane (for my dad, Blaine). That's a bit unusual, but that's all I have. Mostly normal, boring names here.

i had a Dorkis somewhere in my family tree. good thing in the last 100 years our family didn't name anyone after her. it's not a name i would want to call anyone today.

Not a strange name. Just different. And I always liked it. My Grandmother was Ruby Pearl. Mom named my Sister Jeni before odd spellings where the vogue. My ML is Lulu and her Aunt was Lula. Dh's Grandmother was Hulda Orlu. She always joked that her parents could not decide to name her Hulda or Lu.

I knew a Lady named Dorkis, she baby sat and all the kids called her Dodo !!!!

My grandparents's 3rd son was given the middle name, "Ray."

The 4th son's first name was "Raymond."

The 5th son (my father) was given the middle name, "Ray."

Three of the brothers had the same name! The story in my family was that Grandmother was upset that she wasn't being given a girl baby ... She had 9 babies, all boys!

After Dad, she may have still been in a pout. Instead of another "Ray," the new baby boy was named "Deelus." Of course, the family understood that to mean "Daughterless."

My Mom had a cousin named Lurlene. Now put a southern drawl on that and you get LUR (like fur, but with a L) LEEN (emphasis on both syllables ) And try to roll the R a little, just to drag it out.
