Thanks, I'm still researching it, not sure if I will try it or not yet. I am very skeptical of anything touted to "cure everything that ails you" So far from what I have read, all the hype aside it seems short of having an allergic reaction (mayo clinic site) it wouldn't hurt anyone that was not diabetic. The thing that caught my attention was the "probiotic" nature since I have digestive issues and asthma, which in my opinion is an inflammation process closely related to digestive issues.

You can buy a bottle at a health food store and see if you like the taste. I don't know about being a cure-all, but I like it as a fizzy alternative to soda and of course for the probiotics. :)

You can grow your own scoby from the bottle at the health food store. I think all you would need to do is put the kombucha in a gallon jar, give it a couple cups of regular sweetened (sugar) tea and cover with a coffee filter/rubberband. Leave it on the counter. The scoby looks like a piece of rubber, forming on top of the tea. It may be beige, to tea brown. It is difficult to cut, but can be pulled apart in layers as time passes and new layers grow. Kass, if you can't find one, I can try to mail you one. I think people mail them in plastic bags with liquid fairly successfully.

I am going to see if they sell the unpasteurized live kombucha at a local health food store before ordering online.

I tried to use the Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother.....it didn't like me at all. Well, my body/system didn't tolerate it.
I had started using it for the chickens. They have been on it since 2012. Then, my DH started using some in his morning cup of tea. His sinus issues have cleared up immensely! His acid reflux is less. His fingernails and toenails are stronger.
And I am sure other improvements.
So I tried some in Sept of 2014. One week in (and I didn't realize this), I developed skin rashes, yeast infections, and some other gyno issues. I did research, used the OTC meds..while the rashes kept worsening. One of the things I read for pin pointing the cause of the rashes was if "I was consuming any fermented foods or drinks). I finally got the lightbulb moment. Yes. I was. 1 tablespoon of ACV a day!!

Ok...so I stopped immediately.

This was in December of 2014. After suffering for 3 months. The rashes got so bad one time, I couldn't wear clothing for a week.

Anyway.....since I stopped ingesting the ACV w/mother.....the rashes are gone. It took about 1 month to clear them up and heal the skin.

I also deal with MS, and PCOS...so I work on management of those conditions.

Did I mention that you can get Synergy brand kombucha at Walmart now? It's in the section where they sell butter, pomegranate juice and fresh orange juice. The last bottle I got was not fizzy, though, so it may have been at the end of its "use by" date. Synergy is not pasturized, so you can use it to start your own scoby. I like the gingerberry flavor best.

Awesome, I was going to have to wait until going to the health food store (50+ miles) but I can stop by old wally world on my way home tomorrow.

Since the water is boiled does it have to be special water not from the tap?
