I find there is less water evaporation and when I just run between the rows and run the hose so that the whole row gets wet between each. I do this probably twice a week since it's really not that hot, dry, or dusty here. When corn is in tassle, flowers are in bloom and so on, I always go from under so I don't wash off the pollen or damage fruit. Do this about 1.5 hours before sunset, as it takes about an 1:15 to water them all sufficiently.
The plants that get powdery mildew always will get it eventually here...it likes to rain so leaves get wet often. I prefer to try not helping the problem along.
