I'm going to go hide right after I say this, but I don't like houseplants....:hide.

I have grown them and they do well, but after about 2 years they start bugging me and so I give them their freedom....

I don't care much for house plants. There is the problem. They don't get the care they need - conscientious watering, repotting, fertilizer, turning, dusting .... dusting!!

Besides, there is only one good south window in this house. If you have south windows that open onto a deck, then you build a roof over your deck!! Well, that south window may as well be facing north.

Cuttings? I'm willing to put up with Broad Leaf Thyme (Plectranthus amboinicus). It's kind of a pretty plant and does fine in almost any window. I've never used the leaves for seasoning nor for its purported medicinal benefits. Still, I like to touch it now and then for its fragrance.

Cuttings can be taken in the Spring. The old plant will regrow okay but the cuttings will quickly grow roots and new pots of Broad Leaf Thyme can take their place in whatever winter window needs some green color! We've had this going on for about 15 years.

I don't like houseplants either. This orchid is the only one I have. In the past, other orchids get tossed after flowering..

I have a Christmas Cactus that may be 75 years old. I have had it about 10-12 years. My MIL gave it to me and her MIL gave it to her. something of a family heirloom. Here it is:

and blooming a year ago:

I also have a Shefliera (sp?) that I got from Grandpa's funeral 40 years ago.

Then there is the MIL tongue given to me by my MIL many years ago. 20 maybe 25 years?

Speaking of houseplants. I got this peace plant for Dad's funeral in October 2014. It did fine inside last winter and out on the porch all summer. Since bringing it in it looks awful. Should I cut off the damaged and yellow leaves and see if it bounces back? Should I repot it?

Same complete total plant.. or cuttings???
My Mom had a Christmas cactus for as long as I can remember. After she passed it came to live with me. It didn't like the new house and has died back to just a shadow if it's former glory. BUT, I started several pieces of it when I thought it was dying completely and now have a small pot thriving. The original pot was at least 30yrs old. It's still 'living' but looks pitiful. It's re-incarnated self is hopefully going to go on for many, many years.

Cat I have always wanted bougainvillea!! They are SOOO beautiful! But around here they are expensive and I'm HARD on houseplants...
I think it was expensive when I bought it. We had completed a large addition and I bought it for that space. I have repotted it only once or twice. So I guess it is easy. I will see if cuttings can be made and send you some. When they bloom it is for several months mid winter.
