We used to play Clue pretty often. I even got the Ultimate detective version (that's the one with about double the suspects, weapons, and rooms) and Clue II (the one with the video).

Played a lot of Stratego as well.

Then there was the famous night we played Pit! with an actual stockbroker.......

both of you have three of my favorites. i never saw Mouse Trap actually work until years later than what we had as kids. we had a partial set that someone gave us or something. finally those years later someone had a whole set that did work and i watched it go. :)

Risk, and Monopoly. yes, we liked those too.

Chess and DnD, where the 2nd may not quite work for a board game, but i liked what we did with it.

My favorite "board" game was cribbage, with my grandfather. Grandmother taught me Scrabble, which did wonders for my vocabulary. Both of them taught me how to think, and how to lose gracefully, at a young age. Later, as my siblings grew older (I was the eldest) we played Life & Monopoly.

We played Monopoly a lot, but I can't say it was a favorite since I always lost. Also card games, my oldest brother taught me how to play poker when I was 10. As a family we played Uno and Aggravation, dad made all our boards and I still have one of them, but don't play it because I don't really care for the game. As an adult I played chess with Kid#1 but am not good at all. I'm not a strategist, just an opportunist.

My two brothers and my sis and I used to play "War" a card game of which I can't remember what it was. I was more into reading...like with the flashlight under the covers when it was time for bed, while wearing foam rollers.

we played a lot of card games too. our version of War was very simple, you dealt the whole deck out to every person who wanted to play and any odd cards were put in the middle for the winner of the first trick. for an element of mystery nobody (including the winner of the trick) could look at the cards that were face down.

tricks were played by everyone flipping over a card and whoever had the highest card won the trick. in the case of ties you kept flipping cards until someone won the trick.

one variation we did to make it possible to steal another person's highest value card you would after a tie put the following card face down on the trick and then turn another card so that way you could win an otherwise impossible card from someone.

a very simple game. :)
