What's eating my cauliflower already?

You may have a cutworm or army worm in your pot. They only feed at night and hide a half inch or so down in the soil or under mulch in the daytime.

I think it was the chickens - those little turds! I planted everything in the garden, and put a nice fence around it all so the chickens can't get to it. So far, no more damage.
