You are right pumpkin peep! It is supposed to be fire proof b/c the straw is so compact when it is baled.

The more I research it the easier it sounds! There is a Montessori school not too far from me that was made this way.

I think if I start small with the chickens I can afford to learn from my mistakes.

My SIL/BIL out in AZ built their home from straw bales. I dunno if they did it because of evironmental stuff or just to save on their elec bill. I haven't ever seen it.... :/
