Thanks @Smart Red !!! I was remarkably close, and here I thought I was mangling it with my Texas/Southern drawl! I pronounced it share-en-TAYS!!!
[ shere-en-TAYS] would be two or more melons. Ya done good, girlfriend.

I had to look it up. I've never spoken the name out loud, but in my head I was nowhere near the correct pronunciation.

I think we should get back to this subject on what is new. Partly, I am reminded by a slice of Alvaro Charentais and realizing that it might be my last for 2014. However, it was not long ago that I was staring at this melon in the garden and thinking that it may not have time to ripen. Hooray! (There are still 2 Alvaro melons out there ...)

Elsewhere, I have talked about the Tyfon Holland greens. Harvested more yesterday, recognizing that not to do so meant that the leaves would toughen. Nice to have the choice here at home, bok choy, guy lon or the new Tyfon Holland :).

Elsewhere also, on the heirloom tomato and tomato pictures threads, I told about the new-to-me Coyote tomatoes. Of course, Coyotes ain't new. The story on this one was that it was growing wild in Mexico.

More that's new for yew??? For nearly all of us, this year's garden season is winding down and "what's new" will have to be in reference to 2015!

;) Steve

Had a moment to wash some 2014 dirt off me and remembered that the potatoes are nearly underfoot, down in the basement.

Of course, they are no longer "new potatoes" since that July designation is long past. Debuts for Peter Wilcox and Daisy Gold were reported in the potato patch thread ...

I may have to go back in the shower to think of what more was new. I do some of my best thinking in there.

:) Steve
